With spring just around the corner, we are nearly at the business end of the League Two campaign, and the time of year when fans up and down the country begin to have a very good idea of where their team might finish at season's end.
Mansfield Town currently lead the League Two title race, and have been in scintillating form of late, with four wins in their last five games, including a 5-1 victory over Salford City, and a 9-2 hammering of Harrogate Town.
Stockport County have been the pace-setters for the vast majority of the 2023/24 fourth-tier campaign, but the Hatters have recently dropped to second in the table following a poor run of form in which they have won just one game in six.
Dave Challinor's men are yet to fully recover from a 4-0 loss to Tranmere Rovers on 17th February, and have endured two successive 0-0 draws with Gillingham and Swindon Town.
Crewe Alexandra are also very much in the automatic promotion picture courtesy of three wins from their last five fixtures, while the likes of MK Dons and Wrexham are also very much sniffing around.
The race for the League Two play-offs is particularly exciting this season, with just five points separating seventh-placed Gillingham and Newport County, who sit in 16th.
Speaking exclusively to Football League World, Carlton Palmer predicted: "Right now, my prediction for the four teams that will be promoted from League Two to League One are as follows:
"I still believe that Stockport will go up, they're on a disappointing run at the moment, after blowing away the lead.
"They were absolutely out of sight but two defeats, three draws, and only one win in their last six games has seen them drop off, and Mansfield Town have taken over as the league leaders, and they still have a game in hand.
"So I do fancy Mansfield, Stockport, and I do fancy Wrexham.
"Those are the three teams I do think will go up automatically.
"Wrexham, you know, last two games, a draw and a defeat, but I think they will sort that out, and they do have a game in hand.
"So automatically, Wrexham, Stockport and Mansfield and then in the play-offs, I actually fancy MK Dons.
"They've come into a bit of form at the moment, three wins in their last six games, one draw and two defeats.
"They're coming into a bit of form in the play-offs, and I think if they carry on it will be between MK Dons and Crewe Alexandra who go up in the play-offs, in my opinion.
"So for me, Mansfield, Stockport, Wrexham automatically and my outside bet is MK Dons to be promoted to Sky Bet League One."
Automatic promotion hopefuls Mansfield, Stockport and Crewe are all free-scoring teams, while both Wrexham and MK Dons are also capable of going on a run which could see them land an automatic promotion spot.
The play-off race is also set to go right down to the wire, as teams who are currently in lower mid-table have genuine top-six credentials in a condensed table.
