Tottenham’s recent form has raised questions about their ability to compete for silverware this season, but one pundit remains optimistic about their chances.
Despite a disappointing 2-1 loss to Ipswich Town on Sunday, Ally McCoist believes Tottenham could still end the season with a trophy, even if their league ambitions seem a distant dream.
Spurs’ defeat to Ipswich, a side that has struggled in the Premier League for years, highlighted the team's ongoing inconsistency.
With a top-four finish now looking increasingly unlikely, many fans have begun to focus their hopes on cup competitions. Tottenham remain favourites to win the Europa League and are just one tie away from reaching the Carabao Cup semifinals, but the road ahead is anything but smooth.

McCoist, the former Rangers manager, was not disheartened by Spurs’ recent setback. During a heated debate on talkSPORT, he boldly claimed that he could see Tottenham lifting a trophy this season, despite their struggles in the league.
“It wouldn’t surprise me in the slightest if Tottenham won something this year,” he said, adding that while the league title was out of reach, the cups were still within Tottenham’s grasp.
However, Jamie O’Hara, ex-Tottenham player, was less convinced. He questioned McCoist’s optimism, pointing to Tottenham’s defensive fragility and inconsistency as major obstacles to silverware.
O’Hara expressed doubts about Spurs' ability to win the Europa League, pointing out that conceding goals too easily could be their downfall, especially against tougher teams in the knockout stages.
He was also sceptical about their chances in the Carabao Cup and FA Cup, where the competition remains fierce.
While O’Hara’s concerns are valid, McCoist argued that on their day, Spurs could beat anyone, which gives them a chance in cup competitions.
The unpredictability of knockout football means that one strong performance could propel them to a trophy. McCoist also pointed to the fact that Spurs manager Ange Postecoglou has a track record of winning in his second year, which could bode well for the future.
With their league hopes fading, Spurs will have to rely on their cup runs to salvage something from this campaign. Whether they can live up to McCoist’s prediction remains to be seen.
