Alan Hutton claims that Aston Villa starlet Jacob Ramsey could put pressure on senior midfielders and attackers after being blocked from leaving on loan.

The former Villa and Scotland defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider assistant editor Russell Edge, insists the teenager is a “fantastic talent” who has clearly caught the eye of manager Dean Smith.

Hutton believes that Ramsey must be dazzling the manager on the training ground and that he could offer competition to both the midfield and the attacking stars already in the senior side.

Hutton told Football Insider: “I think it actually shows how highly Dean Smith rates him.

“If he’s not willing to let him go out on loan, that’s because he wants to use him this season. I’ve seen him kind of grow up as a player, in that Bristol City game he went from a boy to a man, if you like, from what I saw when I was at the club.

“He’s really grown in stature as well and he looks really confident. He’s obviously seen enough in him in training that he can push the midfield players, or even the attacking players, that are there to come in and do a job.

“On one hand you would like to see him go out and play regular football, I think obviously that would do him good, but it shows you how highly they rate him, that if they’re keeping him there, they’re going to use him. It’s good for him but we want to see him play, he’s obviously a fantastic talent so hopefully, he can get a chance.”

Ramsey is a versatile midfielder who has played both centrally and in a number 10 role for the under-18s and under-23s.

He has a total of seven first-team appearances under his belt which include three starts in the League Cup this season.
