Frank McAvennie has urged Celtic to sign Diego Laxalt on a permanent deal after his “fantastic” start to the season at Parkhead.
The former Hoops and St Mirren striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider correspondent Dylan Childs, said the 27-year-old has been a “breath of fresh air” since arriving to the club in October.
Gianluca Di Marzio claims the Glasgow giants may open talks over the permanent signing of Laxalt when they travel to the loan star’s parent club AC Milan on 3 December.
Football Insider understands that it will cost the Scottish Premiership champions in the region of £4.5million to seal the transfer.
Laxalt has started all eight of Celtic’s matches since he arrived on a season-long loan deal from Milan on deadline-day.
When asked by Football Insider if his former club should look to seal a deal for the Uruguay international next month, McAvennie said: “Laxalt is a fantastic player.
“A lot of people do not like him but I think he has been a breath of fresh air.
“He is like a ball on a school yard – he tackles everything. He is a throwback but he can also cross the ball.
“He is still getting used to the way Celtic play but I am all for them trying to sign him permanently.
“I was told he is one of the best left-back and this guy is not letting me down, he has shown his qualities.”
