Roberto Firmino has struggled to find the back of the net regularly for Liverpool since last season

Tony Cascarino told The Times that Roberto Firmino’s struggles in front of goal are causing problems for Sadio Mane and Mohammed Salah.

Firmino is yet to find the back of the net for Liverpool this season. The Brazilian only managed 10 goals combined in the Premier League and Champions League last season.

Mane and Salah have been scoring regularly, but Firmino’s goal contribution was a problem for Cascarino (h/t Express):

“It is only one goal in 20 Premier League matches now for Roberto Firmino as the Liverpool forward continues to struggle in front of goal. “There was nothing particularly wrong with his all-round game against Everton — he linked the play well and was involved in the move for Liverpool’s opener — but his lack of productivity in front of goal is placing a huge burden on Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane.”

Cascarino ended by saying that if Firmino’s goal drought continued, he couldn’t drop his creative standards.

Firmino needs to kick on

Salah and Mane have always gotten us the goals needed with Firmino doing a lot of work to unlock defences.

However, he still needs to finish the chances he gets and some of his performances have been below par. He has missed easy chances in front of goal too and this is a major concern for Liverpool.

The Reds have other options who can play up top, with Divock Origi waiting for his chance. Summer signing Diogo Jota can also take up this position, and it will be interesting to see Firmino’s form for a few more games.

The Brazilian struggled to score at home last season, though he scored for us in the Champions League.

Firmino’s contribution cannot be only measured with goals and assists. However, he has to hit double figures in the Premier League given that he starts the majority of the games and gets some good chances too.
