Diogo Jota’s arrival at Liverpool has upset the club’s famous front three and could be the cause behind their poor form.

That’s according to former Celtic and West Ham striker Frank McAvennie, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Liverpool’s struggles in front of goal.

Liverpool dropped points again on Monday night as they drew 1-1 with Leeds while Sadio Mane and Roberto Firmino missed a host of chances to put the game to bed.

Mane opened the scoring against Leeds by rolling the ball into an empty net, scoring his first Premier League goal since late January and only his eighth of the season.

Firmino has also struggled for goals during this year’s campaign while Mohamed Salah and Jota have both been in fine form.

McAvennie insists that something changed when Jota arrived at the club and he may have unsettled a front three that had been so prolific in recent years.

“Salah is a magnificent player and having Firmino and Mane with him was just brilliant,” McAvennie told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They’ve brought in Jota and while he’s been playing well, brilliant even, I think it’s upset the other three.

“I don’t know what’s happened there but they don’t look right now Jota’s in there with them.

“Two years ago and last season those players were magnificent but now Jota’s here, some of them just can’t score.

“It’s the only thing that’s changed really, other than the injuries but you can’t blame poor finishing and decision making on defensive injuries.”

Jota’s debut season with Liverpool has been disrupted by injuries though he has still picked up 12 goals in 26 competitive appearances.

Firmino only has six goals this season though Salah is flying with 19 strikes and sits just behind Harry Kane in the race for the Premier League golden boot.
