Pundit believes only Lionel Messi could score the type of goal Mo Salah scored against Everton | OneFootball

Pundit Pat Nevin has given his thoughts on the goal that Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah scored against Everton at Goodison Park last weekend.

The ball fell to Salah inside the penalty area, and he volleyed home his 6th Premier League goal of the season. Salah’s goal from the weekend can be seen below at 00:40.

In terms of the players who currently still play professional football, Nevin believes that only Barcelona striker Lionel Messi could score the type of goal that Salah scored against Everton on the weekend.

“I don’t know any other players who can do that,” Nevin told BBC Radio 5 Live (18/10/20 at 2:30 pm).

“The way it came to him and the pace it came to him. Everybody else takes a touch there.

“That’s the natural thing. You take a touch. Who actually gets it on target? Time and again, you see Mo Salah doing this. We almost take it for granted now. He has these technical finishes sometimes. And you think ‘oh, that’s a good call’ and you look at it closely technically then you think ‘that is absolutely brilliant’

“I just don’t know anyone else who would do that. I would argue Messi would. But apart from that who would think of that. Get your feet in that position that quickly and have that accuracy. It’s unbelievable and it’s world, world-class.”

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

As you can see above, it was a superb finish from Salah. He did not have much time to react.

Nevin’s words are very kind. Messi is someone who has scored 635 goals in 735 appearances for Barcelona.

Salah should be delighted to have an aspect of his game compared to someone as good as Messi.

In regards to Salah’s goal against Everton, the Egyptian also scored a very similar goal against Leeds United at the beginning of the 2020-21 Premier League season, which you can see below at 00:48.
