Dumfries is one of the Nerazzurri’s top targets to replace Achraf Hakimi on the right side after the Moroccan’s departure for Paris Saint-Germain, though as of yet the club have not been able to secure his release as they are not financial able to make an offer other than to take him on loan with a purchase option.

Meanwhile, English side Everton are heavily interested in the 25-year-old, but similar are struggling to accommodate his arrival financially, with the Merseyside club needing to find a way to make his signing feasible in view of Financial Fair Play.

Elfrink sketches a picture of the situation that has Dumfries expecting to leave the Eindhoven club and the Dutch league and ready to accept a move, but still stuck at PSV due to the finances involve in potential deals.

“PSV, his entourage, and Dumfries are trying to complete a transfer,” Elfrink clairified, “We know he has Everton tracking him but they have to wait because of the rules in England and Financial Fair Play. It is impossible for them to get a player now.”

Elfrink continued, “He is no longer appearing in a PSV shirt. If nothing materializes, at some point he could even go back to training, but I don’t expect it. I think the transfer will take place soon because Denzel already said in January that he wanted a move away, and therefore it cannot come as a surprise. Coach Roger Schmidt also said two weeks ago that everyone would be taking him into account this season. Everyone knew he would go away.”
