PSV have missed out on boosting their attack with target Viktor Tsygankov joining Girona from Dinamo Kiev, his former club announced.

Ruud van Nistelrooy’s side saw Tsygankov as the successor to Cody Gakpo but knew in advance that it would be financially difficult to recruit the 25-year-old striker and that the Ukrainian was not too keen on a move to the Eredivisie.

The La Liga won the race to sign the Ukrainian international for a fee worth around €5 million and 50% on any resale while playing for the Spanish club – which is part of the City Group.

The transfer means PSV will need to explore the market for options, especially now that they are close to losing winger Noni Madueke to Chelsea soon too.

Gakpo, 23, joined Liverpool earlier this month for a fee worth €40 million which has seen a dent in their attacking talent which captain Luuk de Jong commented on after their first match back from the World Cup.

Tsygankov had an expiring contract with Dinamo Kiev, where he played a total of 236 official matches and scored 94 times since his debut in the 2016/17 season. The attacker played 43 international matches for Ukraine and scored seven goals.
