Belgium have experienced a sluggish start to their Euro 2024 campaign, winning just one of their three group games. PSV’s Johan Bakayoko has been made to watch on from the bench as they struggle to make a mark on the tournament. On Saturday, the 21-year-old winger made his feelings clear to the media, admitting he feels ‘disappointed’ with his lack of game time.

’I know my own qualities,’ the PSV Eindhoven star told the media on Saturday. ‘I’m disappointed that I’m not playing. I didn’t come here to sit on the bench.’ Johan Bakayoko applied the pressure on manager Domenico Tedesco – ‘The manager makes those choices. As long as we get results, I won’t say anything about it. We’re through, so he’s right.’

Bakayoko has featured for a total of just 47 minutes so far at Euro 2024, appearing as a substitute in the games against Slovakia and Ukraine. Now, he wants to be in the team that face France in Monday’s last 16 clash. Beating France is an incredibly tough task for this Belgium side. They’ve netted just twice so far this tournament and have been easily shut down by opponents. Johan Bakayoko certainly has the qualities to make a mark, but it’s up to Tedesco to decide who gets a chance.
