With just one defeat between them so far this season, this was a match-up between the top two, and best, sides in the Eredivisie this season.

But it was an incredibly cagey opening to the game with neither side willing to truly commit men forward at the risk of exposing themselves defensively.

It was a game of few chances but a great one came just after the break as Johan Bakayoko found space inside the area but saw his close range effort saved well by Justin Bijlow.

PSV were on top now and eventually made their quality pay on 65 minutes as Ismael Saibari ghosted into the penalty area and volleyed home.

The Eindhoven outfit then doubled their lead just moments later as Oliver Boscagli headed in from a corner.

The home side did pull a goal back in the final 10 minutes however as star striker Santiago Gimenez’s deflected shot hit the back of the net.
