PSV Eindhoven are working to keep star midfielder Xavi Simons around, as Paris Saint Germain have the potential to bring him back after this season for 12 million euros due to a reported contract clause.
In a recent interview on Tuesday, club manager Ruud van Nistelrooy confirmed the Dutch side are ‘in talks’ to keep the 19-year-old beyond 2027 rather than seeing PSG pounce.
Given the departures of former stars Cody Gakpo to Liverpool and Noni Madueke to Chelsea, it’s no surprise the club wants to make sure the game-changer stays in the squad.
“He is an exceptional player. We are working to make him an even better player,” said Van Nistelrooy. “We see Xavi as a key player in the construction of this PSV in the coming years.”
“We have to see how that develops. I am positive that there will be an extension.
“There is enough room for him here at the club to develop further. It is important that you do this in a stable environment such as here in Eindhoven. I’m not done with him yet.”
However, with 12 goals and five assists in 29 games, PSG could be inclined to bring his talents back to the French capital.
