Presnel Kimpembe (28) has undergone surgery for a second time in order to resolve an ankle injury that has sidelined the Paris Saint-Germain defender since late February.

Having already been operated on once, Kimpembe’s ruptured Achilles tendon has required surgery again. The France international returned to first-team training in December, but it quickly became evident that the feeling in the ankle was still not right.

With the defender’s contract expiring at the end of the season, there were concerns that Kimpembe may not feature again for his formative club. Those fears were put to rest on 20th December, when PSG announced the extension of Kimpembe’s contract until 2026, however, in the same press release, it was confirmed that the Frenchman would require further surgery.

Kimpembe has now undergone surgery, as he confirmed on social media. “Road to recovery again. Thank you for your support. Strength to come back stronger,” he said.

A return date has not been fixed by PSG. The club are aware of the seriousness of this type of injury and are being prudent so as to not rush Kimpembe’s return. A return in the Spring is being hypothesised. Kimpembe may, therefore, feature for Les Parisiens before the end of the season.
