Paris Saint-Germain defender Nuno Mendes (21) is to undergo a hamstring operation, and is expected to be absent for around four months, the club has announced.
Mendes has been absent since April, and following further, more in-depth medical tests on his hamstring injury, it has been decided that the Portuguese international will undergo an operation. He will undergo his hamstring operation in Finland on Friday, and it is estimated that he will be absent for four months, meaning that he will not feature for Les Parisiens until 2024.
His prolonged period of absence perhaps explains Layvin Kurzawa’s reintegration into the first-team setup. The Frenchman had been frozen out and was part of PSG’s list of ‘undesirables’ but he has often been included in Luis Enrique’s matchday squads this season. Theo Hernandez also arrived from Bayern Munich for big money in the summer, meaning that PSG are well covered in the left-back position.
