Lionel Messi (35) will not return to FC Barcelona, according to his brother Matías speaking on his Twitch channel. The Argentine playmaker left the Blaugranes in 2021 amid financial disarray for Barcelona. Then a free agent, Messi signed a two-year deal with Les Parisiens. PSG sporting advisor Luis Campos recently revealed that the Ligue 1 leaders are looking to extend Messi’s stay in the French capital. Now a World Cup winner, the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner has made 18 Ligue 1 appearances this season, managing to score on 10 occasions whilst registering 10 assists.

With Messi settling in in Paris and Barcelona on course to win a first La Liga title since 2019 with Xavi at the helm, the Argentine and Barça don’t look like a match made in heaven anymore. Lionel’s older brother Matías revealed on his Twtich channel that a return to Catalonia is off the cards. “I framed a SPORT piece at home that said ‘Messi should return to Barcelona’ and captioned it with ‘hahahaha we won’t return to Barcelona but if we do, we’ll clean house including sacking Joan Laporta.” Messi’s entourage seem to hold a grudge with the Barcelona president for the way he handled Messi’s exit.
