Gianluigi Donnarumma’s (25) recent performances for Paris Saint-Germain have come in for criticism, especially in the wake of the midweek defeat to Arsenal, during which he was at fault for both goals.
It hasn’t been all smooth-sailing for Donnarumma since joining PSG on a free transfer in 2021. It was initially difficult to displace Keylor Navas as No.1, but since doing so definitively at the start of last season, the Italian shotstopper has not always fully convinced.
With the arrival of Matvey Safonov at the start of the season, Donnarumma’s position as Les Parisiens’ No.1 came under pressure. His error-strewn display did little to allay that pressure and he was the subject of criticism post-match, criticism that has not affected the shot-stopper, Donnarumma insisted.
“I have big shoulders. I am not affected by criticism. I am prepared for that. I am happy with myself and to work with this team,” he said in the post-match mixed zone after a 1-1 draw against OGC Nice on Sunday.
