Paris Saint-Germain have not been put off their pursuit of N’Golo Kanté by the news Chelsea are ready to offer the midfielder a bumper new deal.

According to reports on Tuesday, Chelsea are willing to increase Kanté’s salary to a whopping £290,000-a-week, which would make him the club’s highest paid player.

But The Mirror claim Thomas Tuchel is desperate to sign the France international this summer, and PSG are willing to offer even more money to tempt him to the Parc des Princes.

The Ligue 1 giants have so far made just one summer signing – the capture of free agent Gianluigi Buffon.

If they do want to sign Kanté, they will have to move quickly. Although the transfer window will remain open in France until 31 August, it will close in England on 9 August and Chelsea are unlikely to agree to the sale of one of their key players if they cannot sign a replacement.

Kanté moved to Stamford Bridge from Leicester City for €35m in the summer of 2016 and is under contract until June 2021. After winning the World Cup with France just over a fortnight ago, he is yet to return to pre-season training with his club.

Speaking at a recent press conference, PSG boss Tuchel refused to be drawn on speculation regarding his interest in signing the 27-year-old.

“It is not fair and I do not like it if other coaches talk about situations of players who are playing for other clubs,” Tuchel said.

“So there is no comment on Kante, of course, not for the transfer window.”
