PSG want to sign Real Madrid player Marco Asensio, according to Relevo. Asensio, 27, is free to sign for any club as his contract expires at the end of the season.

PSG want to get ahead of the rest of the teams interested and are looking to sign the Spain international before the end of the January transfer window. A few days ago, the Ligue 1 side made their intention known to Jorge Mendes, the player’s agent, who in turn spoke to Real Madrid.

The response has been categorical: Madrid will not listen to any offer for Asensio in this transfer window as the priority is to tie him down to a new deal. Los Blancos have not even given the PSG the chance to approach them formally.

Asensio has always expressed his desire to remain at the Bernabéu and during the World Cup break, negotiations over a contract extension began.

PSG are willing to pay a transfer fee, because that could secure his signature. The French club are aware that they are not the only ones interested and that has been the main reason for this move, to get ahead of their competitors in the race to land the left-footed forward.

Several clubs in England and Italy have already let Asensio know that they want to give him a leading role in their teams, although for the moment the Spaniard wants Madrid to have the final say.

The next few weeks are going to be decisive, as Asensio doesn’t want to reach the final stretch of the season with his future still up in the air.
