As reported by Le Parisien, Leandro Paredes is expected to be squeezed out of the PSG squad this week but his importance in the dressing room makes that process tricky to handle.

Napoli midfielder Fabien Ruiz’s impending arrival in Paris is expected to push the Argentine down the midfield pecking order and perhaps out of the squad entirely, say the paper, with Paredes possibly suffering a similar fate to Julien Draxler, Layvin Kurzawa, Ander Herrera and others who have been asked to train with the reserve side.

However, the Spanish-speaking Paredes has an important role socially within the PSG dressing room and, as his deft assist for Lionel Messi’s bicycle kick in the 5-0 win over Clermont this weekend shows, he has a strong connection with his countryman as well as Neymar. Despite struggling to settle initially after joining for €40m from Zenit St. Petersburg in 2019, Paredes is now a popular figure at the club and is close to the rest of a major Spanish-speaking contingent in the group.

The 28-year-old has agreed personal terms with Juventus but PSG are looking for at least €20m to allow him to leave and, although the player is tempted by Juve with the World Cup on the horizon, finalising the deal and his removal from the group remains difficult.
