In an interview published in Le Parisien, Paris Saint-Germain’s reserve team coach Zoumana Camara – formerly a defender and then first-team assistant coach with the club – has notably spoken about his relationship, or lack thereof, with outgoing first-team manager Christophe Galtier. The ex-central defender, who has been with the club since 2007, recently put pen to paper on a contract keeping him at the club until next year.

Camara is notably asked about the U19 league final last week, in which the team was defeated by Nantes. Although the Galtier had initially indicated that midfielder Warren Zaïre-Emery and defender El Chadaille Bitshiabu would be made available for the game, the pair were instead called up for the final match of the Ligue 1 season against Clermont.

The U19 coach indicates that he has had no explanation regarding the U-turn, and goes on to add that both players had been keen on playing the match. In any case, he says, there had never been any discussion between Galtier and himself in the past – a state of affairs he says he would change should he ever become first-team manager:

“I can’t speak of regrets, because everyone has their own way of working. At the club, I speak with Yohan Cabaye and Luca Cattani [both in charge of the youth academy], who then speak to [sporting advisor] Luís Campos. To each their own. But if I were to become number one [first-team coach] tomorrow, I would put nobody between myself and the reserve team manager to speak with them. But that’s just me.”
