According to Ruben Uria of GOAL, PSG are set to present a formal two-year contract offer to superstar Lionel Messi after the FIFA World Cup 2022, amid strong interest from the likes of Barcelona and Inter Miami.

Messi’s future has been a topic of intense debate in recent months as he is in the final year of his contract with PSG and will become a free agent at the end of the season.

A return to Barcelona has been speculated intensely in the media, with president Joan Laporta dropping hints that the Catalans would look favourably at a reunion with the greatest player to have donned the Blaugrana colours.

At the same time, there has been a lot of murmur about a potential move to MLS outfit Inter Miami, with reports even indicating that a transfer could be in advanced stages.

However, Messi’s entourage has moved to deny those speculations, and as per the aforementioned report, a stay at PSG looks more likely at this point considering that there have been no meaningful negotiations either with Barcelona or Inter Miami.

The 35-year-old footballing great joined the French champions in the summer of 2021, after his contract with Barça expired and the La Liga behemoths could not renew him due to their financial troubles.

After making a slow start to life in France, Messi hit top form in 2022 and had been in particularly impressive form in the ongoing campaign, having managed a tally of 12 goals and 14 assists from just 19 matches in all competitions.

The 35-year-old is seen as a vital part of the squad at PSG and the Ligue 1 champions have every intention of holding on to him beyond this season.

To that end, they will now offer the seven-time Ballon d’Or winner a new two-year contract after the World Cup, and have informed him of the same.

It has been widely reported that Messi would make a decision on his future only after the World Cup. But, as things stand, PSG seem to be in a strong position to renew the global superstar, with a return to Barcelona or a shock switch to Inter Miami appearing unlikely.
