Paris Saint-Germain target Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba to convince Kylian Mbappe to stay

According to Julien Laurens of ESPN, Paris Saint-Germain have identified Manchester United midfielder Paul Pogba as a transfer target in order to convince Kylian Mbappe to stay with them moving forward. The latter will become a free agent next summer, and he has been heavily linked with a move to Real Madrid.

PSG are looking to bring in a world-class midfielder as they want to convince Mbappe that the club is taking the right path towards success. That could help them push off Real Madrid and make him sign a new agreement to extend his stay at the French capital.

Pogba has been identified as an option alongside Franck Kessie of AC Milan as they are currently engaged in negotiations with the French club. They are legally able to do so this month since both of them have entered the final six months of their respective deals.

Pogba to leave Man Utd for PSG?

The sentiment among the fans is that the 28-year-old would end up leaving the club eventually- whether it be this month or next summer. Although, it would not be much of a reach to say that it will probably be at the end of the season due to his contract as well as the fact that he is currently out injured.

It would not be wrong to think that if the Frenchman wanted to stay at Old Trafford, he would have renewed his deal by now. That is further supported by his decision to reject an extension last summer, but one could argue how he may want to assess his options before taking the next step.

To an extent, that is understandable as the Man United ace has never clicked into his usual self consistently as he had done with the national team. We may have declined in terms of quality and stature in the last decade after Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure, but Pogba has not covered himself in glory either, showing only glimpses of the form he showed at Juventus on a regular basis.

At the same time, the appointment of Ralf Rangnick and the due departure of Ed Woodward could make a case that the Glazers are finally addressing their faults. For that reason, we can assume that the club is trying to find the right way to go back to its glory days.

The France international has to see the change we are trying to make and help us in doing so if he has an option of staying at the club. But if this season was our last chance at convincing him to stay, then it’s certainly not going well, with the club still struggling under our new German manager.

We would have wanted the Red Devils central midfielder to stay, but it is high time that we look towards a better future rather than trying to keep hold of players who doubt their future with us. PSG are certainly building a super team and offer Pogba a chance to return to his homeland. If it turns out to be too good to reject for him remains to be seen.
