Bayern Munich veteran Joshua Kimmich has been on FC Bayern Munich and Paris Saint-Germain’s radar. However, in recent days, there’s been chatter about his future.
Sky Sport Germany’s Florian Plettenberg recently shared that Kimmich is open to discussing a contract extension with Bayern Munich beyond 2025.
Furthermore, Barcelona and PSG have faced some setbacks in securing the player. The most recent blow comes from Bayern Munich’s Max Eberl, who has stated that they want Kimmich to be a crucial part of their project.
“We need Joshua Kimmich to be a face of the project,” Eberl said. “His performances, willingness, heart… he is predestined for that. He should be the captain of Bayern Munich of the future… But first we have to extend the contract!”
The latest information on the Kimmich file comes from transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, who reveals that PSG are the club that have shown the most concrete interest in Kimmich, even if a deal didn’t happen this summer.
“Talks will take place, for sure; Bayern will offer Kimmich a new deal but it could be something that will take some time,” Romano wrote in his Daily Briefing column for CaughtOffside. “Let’s see how talks will evolve, but Kimmich is open to speaking to Bayern for sure, despite links with Premier League clubs.
“We heard a lot of rumors over the summer about Premier League clubs and others around Europe, but the reality is that the most concrete interest came from PSG. They ended up signing Joao Neves, and he was their top target in midfield, but they also considered internally if they could also sign Kimmich to play together in midfield with Neves.
“PSG’s priority was Neves, but it wasn’t a case of signing one or the other, Kimmich was also a possibility to play with him. In the end, though, nothing happened as PSG decided to focus on other priorities, while Kimmich was also happy to stay with Bayern. Still, there will now be important talks to better understand his future and to resolve the situation of one of the biggest names who could be a free agent next summer.”
According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona has targeted Jonathan Tah of Bayer Leverkusen and Kimmich as part of its 2025 plans to strengthen the team’s midfield and defense. Nonetheless, it seems the Parisians might be the more aggressive side.
