PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has responded to rumours linking Liverpool star Mo Salah with a transfer to the French capital.
The Egyptian winger’s future has been the source of much speculation lately following numerous comments from the 32-year-old on his contract situation at the club.
Salah, whose current deal expires at the end of the season, recently admitted he was “disappointed” he had not received a new offer. This past weekend he suggested he played against Manchester City at Anfield for the last time in the Premier League.
PSG are one of the few clubs in the world that could afford the player’s wages, but Al-Khelaifi poured cold water on the prospect of signing him as a free agent next summer.
While the French outfit admire Salah, they are more focused on building a project based on young talent under manager Luis Enrique.
“It’s not true,” Al-Khelaifi told Sky Germany during the European Club Association meeting on Tuesday in Budapest.
“He’s a fantastic and amazing player, but we’ve never considered him, to be honest. We know every club would love to have him, but this rumour about us is simply not true,” he said.
He went on to talk in more detail about PSG’s transfer plans, adding: “There are a lot of rumours about players, but we are very clear. We have one of the youngest teams in Europe, if not the youngest, with an average age of 22.5 years. We’re building a team for the future with our amazing coach.
“We have a long-term plan with this team and coach. Our players are united, and it’s a fantastic group with a great atmosphere.
“In my opinion, we have the best coach in the world right now. He’s building a project for the future. Results matter, but we remain focused on our project.
“There are always rumors in the media—they want to sell newspapers. But I believe in our project, our system, our coach, and our plan. If there’s an opportunity (to sign players in January), we will of course explore.”
