Neymar sits on the bench during a pre-season friendly.
French champions Paris Saint-Germain want at least £129million to sell Brazilian superstar Neymar, according to reports.
PSG are believed to be willing to sell the 31-year-old before the end of the summer transfer window as the club’s hierarchy looks to begin a new chapter under head coach Luis Enrique.
Player power has been a massive issue at Parc des Princes over the years and their Qatari owners are looking to push forward without high-maintenance players.
After losing Lionel Messi to Inter Miami and discovering Kylian Mbappe has no desire to stay at the club beyond 2023/24, PSG are in a bit of disarray at this moment in time.
Neymar has been the subject of transfer rumours over the last two or three years with Chelsea’s name often popping up.
However, his prospective exit is not a simple one given his monstrous salary in Paris and the club’s valuation having paid a world-record £198m to sign Neymar from Barcelona in 2017.
Despite this, his injury problems, and the baggage that comes with him, PSG want at least €150million (£129.4m) for the Brazilian winger, claims Spanish outlet AS.
It is safe to say no club is going to pay that – not even one in Saudi Arabia… surely?
Neymar reportedly earns around £600,000 per week, which totals over £30m a year.
The AS report says Neymar’s ‘desire to leave PSG peaked in early June’ after the club’s ultras gathered at the player’s home urging him to leave.
It is noted that the Parisiens are willing to let Neymar leave on loan with an obligation to buy in 2024.
There is interest from MLS, though there is no chance an American club will be able to pay such a huge transfer fee.
Neymar’s ‘only viable option right now would be a transfer’ and there is a chance he will move to Saudi Arabia.
He has been eager to stay in Europe but Neymar is now ‘rethinking’ his stance after Al-Hilal offered a salary worth €80m per year, which is viewed as an ‘irresistible’ amount of money.
Whatever is around the corner for PSG and Neymar, it promises to be a ‘hectic’ conclusion to the summer transfer window, the report adds.
