Luis Enrique has already made his mark at Paris Saint-Germain. In his first season at the club, he looks set to win the Ligue 1 title, at a canter, whilst PSG also remain in both cup competitions.
The Spaniard masterminded Barcelona’s remontada against PSG in 2017, and in 2024, he masterminded PSG’s remontée. Les Parisiens went into the second leg of their UEFA Champions League quarter-final against Barcelona with a one-goal deficit to overturn after a 3-2 defeat to the Blaugrana last Wednesday.
PSG went one goal behind in Barcelona but following Ronald Araujo’s red card midway through the first half, Les Parisiens went on to win 4-1 on the night and 6-4 on aggregate, thanks to goals from Ousmane Dembélé, Vitinha, and a brace from Kylian Mbappé.
It is only the third time that PSG have reached this stage of the competition, the first time they did so was when Les Parisiens reached the final in 2020. Post-match PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi expressed delight at his decision to bring Luis Enrique to the club in the summer.
“Everyone fought for each other [tonight]. Everyone was a warrior. Everyone really wanted to qualify for the semi-final. We have a really great manager, the best in the world,” Al-Khelaifi told Canal Plus. After Thomas Tuchel, Luis Enrique could be just the second manager to lead PSG to a Champions League final.
