PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi denies conflict between beIN and ECA duties | OneFootball

In speaking with Politico, PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi defended his dual role as president of the European Clubs Association (ECA) and in leading television broadcaster beIN sports, who invest heavily in TV rights for Champions League games and others.

At the suggestion of a conflict between the two jobs, Al-Khelaifi responded:  “When there’s trouble, they need me, I’m there to help. Nobody sees any conflict,” while insisting he’d never “leveraged or taken advantage” of his position. “Nasser is not the one going in the market and selling the rights, but we are pushing them to increase the price. My interest is to secure the maximum for my club and our [ECA] clubs. If anything, it’s damaging for beIN when the ECA drives up rights costs.”

In the same interview, the PSG leader suggested Barcelona’s summer transfer spending was “unfair” while questioning the legality of their methods and that UEFA could use high-profile games to create a multi-day “holiday destination that people would love to go to.”
