Paris Saint-Germain‘s president, Nasser Al-Khelaifi, did not hold back while criticising Real Madrid for pushing the launch of the “infamous” Super League project and then celebrating their Champions League glory.

During the 28th General Assembly of the European Club Association, the president of ECA, Al-Khelaifi, accused Real Madrid of being double-faced. As quoted by Foot Mercato, he said:

“It’s strange that Real Madrid are celebrating winning the Champions League. It’s very strange that you go against the competition, but participate and celebrate having won the title. I think it’s very weird, to be honest. But we are not going to waste time on this and we are going to continue to work.”

In April 2021, a collective effort from clubs such as Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, and various big clubs from England and Italy led to the inauguration of a semi-closed private competition project for the elites of Europe, called the Super League.

However, the project lasted for only 48 hours following the ferocious protest in different parts of the globe against the plan spreading the elitist viewpoint. With English clubs pulling out of the pact one by one after getting flabbergasted by the fan protest, the plan could not see the light of day.
