Paris Saint-Germain will be hungry for revenge following their crushing 4-1 defeat away at St James’ Park to Newcastle United, in the second matchday of this year’s Champions League edition. The fixture will be decisive for the outcome of Group F, where only three points separate fourth-place Newcastle from first-place Borussia Dortmund.

Building up towards the game, Luis Enrique has announced that his team is ready and that they will play the match “like a final“. Les Parisiens are performing well domestically, having won their last six Ligue 1 matches. However the focus of the Club de la Capitale, as always, remains on the most prestigious of European club competitions, where their results have been rather lacklustre.

The Blue and Reds will be receiving the Magpies with a significantly depleted side, having lost many key players to injuries, with captain Marquinhos (29) and sensational youngster Warren Zaïre-Emery (17) perhaps the two most important absentees.

Eddie Howe’s side is coming off the back of a terrific performance on the weekend, which saw them dominate Chelsea in a 4-1 win at home. However, their Champions League form is quite different, having lost both of their matches against Dortmund since the game against PSG.

Following their dominant 5-2 win to AS Monaco last Friday, PSG’s starting eleven shouldn’t be all too different from that one, barring one change. Indeed, although Gonçalo Ramos (22) had an overall convincing performance, scoring the first of his team’s goals and making himself available up top, it should be Randal Kolo Muani (24) who starts against Newcastle.

The Spanish coach may favour RKM’s link-up play and general presence to battle it out with a combative Newcastle side, with also the possibility to be precious in transitional play, in order to counter the Magpies’ extreme press which posed so many problems to PSG in the first game.

PSG likely lineup v Newcastle:

Gianluigi Donnarumma; Nordi Mukiele , Lucas Hernández, Milan Skriniar, Achraf Hakimi; Manuel Ugarte, Vitinha, Fabián Ruiz; Kylian Mbappé , Randal Kolo Muani, Ousmane Dembélé. (L’Éq)
