The Telegraph claim Arsenal are in talks to sign Layvin Kurzawa, and his current club PSG are willing to let him leave this month. However, they want a fee of between €5m and €10m, so at least £4.2m.
Mikel Arteta is keen to add to his defensive options this month, particularly at full-back. The Gunners’ current squad options are minimal thanks to all the injuries this season so far.
Earlier this week, David Ornstein reported that Arsenal were in advanced talks with Kurzawa’s representatives, but not with PSG. PSG Sporting Director Leonardo also claimed they had no contact from Arsenal over the weekend.
If The Telegraph’s report is accurate, it seems the two parties are finally in contact. As Ornstein pointed out at the time, Kurzawa is in the final six months of his contract, so Arsenal are free to agree a deal with him first.
Presumably, they wanted to do that before negotiating with PSG, to avoid wasting time. They’re still able to sign Kurzawa in the summer for free even if they can’t reach an agreement with PSG.
That puts Arsenal in a fairly strong negotiating position. At the same time though, Kurzawa’s recent run in the PSG team makes it easier for his current club to claim they need him for the next six months. At the moment, it seems like this deal could go either way.
