PSG Midfielder Verratti Opens Up on Chemistry With Messi and Neymar | OneFootball

Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti sees that he plays a crucial role for the likes of Lionel Messi and Neymar in the team’s attack.

In speaking during an interview with L’Equipe, Verratti noted that he well recognizes that he is not a midfielder that directly chips in for goal contributions but rather helps to set up players in PSG’s attack with key passes upfront.

“I will never be a player who scores twenty goals a season or makes ten assists,” Verratti said. “For me, the most important thing is to make my teammates feel comfortable, in a good position to create chances.

“So, when I manage to make a pass between the lines for Messi or Neymar, it can cause danger. That’s my role: to be in control of the match, to know when to speed up the game and when to calm it down.”

Over the course of the ongoing Ligue 1 campaign, Verratti has simply been an all-around talent in PSG’s midfield. He ranks first on the team in passes per match in league play with a 75.6 average and has also notched a 2.2 tackles per match average.

While Verratti has not chipped in for goals and assists as other midfielders in Europe’s top five leagues have done so, he has recorded a trio of goal contributions in his last three appearances in all competitions with PSG.
