PSG midfielder Ander Herrera retains hope of a Spain recall.

The former Athletic Bilbao and Manchester United man has opened up on his hopes of returning to the national team, where he has just two caps, the most recent being in 2017.

"When I was consistent I was called up to the national team with [Julen] Lopetegui, Robert Moreno planned to call me up... With Luis Enrique I can only say that I'm going to work for it because represent your country is the best there is," Herrera told A Diario.

"I won't throw in the towel. I think I'm close and showing that he should keep me in mind. But I repeat my respect for the coach, if I have to push from outside I will do that like any Spaniard.

"What stops my sleeping on a day-by-day basis is my club, I think the national team is a prize that will come if you deserve it."
