A hard-fought and richly deserved victory for Paris Saint-Germain in the UEFA Super Cup. Under the guidance of Luis Enrique, they became the first side in the competition’s history to come back from two goals down.

With 85 minutes on the clock, the European champions were trailing 0-2, but goals from substitutes Lee Kang-in and Gonçalo Ramos took the game to penalties. In the shootout, Nuno Mendes held his nerve to score the winner.

It’s PSG’s first-ever Super Cup, adding to a European trophy cabinet that already features a Champions League, a Cup Winners’ Cup and an Intertoto Cup.

PSG also became the first French side to lift the trophy, having lost the 1996 final. Worth noting too that Marseille were absent from the 1993 edition after a scandal involving the solicitation of opposing players, which implicated the Olympiens.
