On Monday we were pretty sceptical about the chances of Paris Saint-Germain signing Ivan Rakitić from Barcelona.
A story in Catalan daily Sport claimed that the French giants were looking into the possibility of signing both the Croatia international and Sergio Busquets.
Overnight it was revealed that Ernesto Valverde’s side had essentially tied Busquets down to a new long-term deal with a release clause of €500m.
But an update to the story from Sport on Tuesday suggests that Rakitić really could be on the move before the window closes next week.
They believe that Thomas Tuchel’s side are ready to “blow their budget” on the 30-year-old and are prepared to almost double his wages in the process.
The former Sevilla man’s release clause is, in this market, a relatively low €125m, and PSG are set to lodge a formal bid in the coming days.
Les Parisiens have broken off all other lines of enquiry for other players and are now focusing all their attentions on landing Raktić – and have reportedly told Barça of their intentions to make a bid.
The management at Camp Nou are now set to meet on Wednesday and assess their options – either offer the midfielder a new deal on better terms, or allow him to leave for France.
