L’Équipe report in today’s issue that Paris Saint-Germain have made an offer worth €40m to the city of Paris for the Parc des Princes, as part of discussions regarding the potential future extension of their home stadium’s capacity.

The capital city’s deputy to the mayor for sports Pierre Rabadan had indicated to L’Équipe that PSG had told them they would be interested in buying the stadium in order to carry out the works, that the city authorities had told them to make an offer and that they had received a low proposition.

According to those around Qatar Sports Investment, the owners of PSG, the city’s urban department has estimated the stadium to be worth €350m, while another study has set the figure at €200m.

The reasons for the club’s lowball offer include the fact that they invested €85m to renovate the stadium for Euro 2016, and that they currently have a 30-year lease. Nasser Al-Khelaifi’s remarks on Wednesday on potentially leaving the stadium could in this sense be seen as a way of convincing the city to lower their asking price. However, the fact his comments have come so soon after it was confirmed they were in talks with potential minority shareholders has surprised some, both at the town hall and at PSG.
