According to a report from L’Équipe, Paris Saint-Germain are behind in the race to sign highly-coveted Lille OSC centre-back Leny Yoro (18).

Yoro, whose Lille contract expires at the end of next season, will leave his formative club this summer. Despite LOSC qualifying for European football next season, the Frenchman will not extend his current deal and as a result, a departure is a necessity for Les Dogues, who will need to cash in.

Ligue 1 rivals PSG made an attempt to sign Yoro in January but to no avail. Lille, in the hunt for UEFA Champions League football, were not about to part ways with one of their key players mid-season. Whilst Les Parisiens remain very interested, their chances of signing Yoro are fading amidst intense competition.

Manchester United and Liverpool are both interested in the centre-back, whilst Real Madrid have been lining up a deal for the past two years, according to L’Équipe. Yoro “can imagine himself” making the move to Real Madrid, just as Raphaël Varane did when he joined from local club RC Lens, also at the age of 18.

PSG will have to not only persuade Yoro that his future lies at the Parc des Princes but also convince Lille to sell to a direct French rival rather than abroad. PSG aren’t out of the race but the competition for Yoro is intense.
