PSG goalkeeper Sergio Rico (29) is to be released from Sevilla’s Virgen del Rocío hsopital this Friday, Le Parisien reports. The Spaniard suffered a life-threatening head injury following a serious horse-riding incident in Sevilla on May 28th, leaving him in a coma for several weeks. The following month, Rico’s wife Alba Silva announced that her husband had regained consciousness, his ability to communicate and parts of his memory. The following month, Rico was released from the hospital’s intensive care unit.

Le Parisien reports that Rico was due to undergo surgery to repair an aneurysm before being released from hospital. The French outlet understands that the procedure was necessary to give Rico a chance to resume his goalkeeping career at the highest level. Now, it seems the surgery went as expected with Silva announcing that the Spaniard will be released today. “Last night at the hospital. At last, we are free although I won’t believe it until we reached the doorstep“, Rico’s wife posted on Instagram on Thursday night. It remains to be seen whether Rico will return to the French capital and rejoin the PSG squad.
