L’Équipe understands that Paris Saint-Germain fans are set to be banned from travelling for next weekend’s Le Classique at the Vélodrome.

Olympique de Marseille’s fans were banned from travelling to the Parc des Princes in the return fixture, and it now looks like the favour will be returned. According to L’Équipe, France’s interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, is set to introduce a measure that will prevent fans of Les Parisiens from attending next Sunday’s Classique.

Fearing scenes of violence, stadium bans on away fans are a common feature of French football, especially for games between rivals. Earlier this season, Olympique Lyonnais fans were permitted to travel to the Vélodrome for the Choc des Olympiques, but upon the arrival of the team bus and the bus taking fans to the stadium, there was an attack by OM fans, which ultimately saw the game postponed. Unsurprisingly, no risks will be taken when PSG come to town in a week’s time.
