As expected, Paris Saint-Germain’s fans have been banned from travelling for Sunday’s Le Classique against Olympique de Marseille.

As reported by L’Équipe, it had been expected that PSG’s fans would be banned from making the trip. Marseille’s fans were banned from travelling to the Parc des Princes in the return fixture and that favour has now been returned. France’s interior minister, Gérald Darmanin, stated that he wanted to avoid the “real and serious risk of clashes between supporters”.

The last time PSG’s fans were permitted to enter the Vélodrome for a Classique was in 2015. Fearing scenes of violence, stadium bans on away fans are a common feature of French football, especially for games between rivals. Earlier this season, Olympique Lyonnais fans were permitted to travel to the Vélodrome for the Choc des Olympiques, but upon the arrival of the team bus and the bus taking fans to the stadium, there was an attack by OM fans, which ultimately saw the game postponed. Unsurprisingly, no risks will be taken when PSG come to town later this week.
