A Paris Saint-Germain supporter has been apprehended by police after attempting to set fire to a giant Marseille flag.

Adidas had plastered the giant motif on the side of a building in the French city to celebrate the 25th anniversary of the club’s Champions League triumph after they beat AC Milan in the 1993 final.

However, one disgruntled PSG fan was unimpressed and tried to set fire to the tarpaulin by lighting it on Sunday night.

Fortunately, a police patrol was passing by and managed to arrest him. According to police sources, the 37-year-old had been preparing such an act ‘for a long time’.

It is understood he had planned to film the scene to become a hero among supporters of PSG. However, he is now waiting to appear before a judge.
