Ronaldinho probably won’t be getting a Christmas card from Paris Saint-Germain youth director Luis Fernández this year.

Last week, the Brazilian made some comments in an interview with French outlet Canal+ which appeared to suggest he didn’t have much respect for Fernández, who coached him at PSG during his time at the club between 2001 and 2003.

When discussing Paul Pogba’s situation at Manchester United, Ronaldinho said: “It is different. When José [Mourinho] tells you that you are going to be on the bench, you must respect that.

“[Fernández], not so much.

“There is a difference between the two. I think that Paul can really learn a lot from José. He is one of the best in world when it comes to coaching. A coach who has won that many titles and possesses that much knowledge has to be respected, really.

“In my case, it was more the contrary.”

Fernández – who won the UEFA Cup Winners’ Cup, Coupe de France, Coupe de la Ligue, UEFA Intertoto Cup and the Trophee des Champions during two separate spells at the Parc des Princes – is now Les Parisiens’ youth academy director and he wasted no time at all in hitting back at Ronaldinho via his official Twitter account.

“He was a very, very great player but less so away from the pitch,” wrote Fernández.

“His lifestyle stopped him from becoming a Cristiano Ronaldo or a Lionel Messi. To see him like this, he is a mess.”

Ouch.
