With Paris Saint-Germain looking to further strengthen their defence at the end of the season, club captain Marquinhos (29) could be allowed to leave, according to a report from L’Équipe.
Marquinhos has been absent through injury in recent weeks. In his absence, Lucas Beraldo and Lucas Hernandez have grown in confidence in the centre of defence. All the while, PSG are looking to spend big on a defender in the summer. Lille OSC’s Leny Yoro (18) is reportedly the primary target for Les Parisiens, but in order to lure him to the Parc des Princes, certain gametime guarantees would have to be provided.
That game time could come at the expense of Marquinhos’ spot in the starting XI. The Brazilian international already had his authority weakened at the start of the season, with club executives reportedly keen of stripping him of the captain’s armband. Ultimately, he remained captain after two rounds of player voting, but there was an unavoidable impression that the upper echelons of the club were keen to move him on from the role.
Their ambivalence to Marquinhos’ presence at the club could be demonstrated again this summer. According to L’Équipe, PSG have opened the door to the Brazil international leaving the club at the end of the season.
