No one has played for Paris Saint-Germain more than Marquinhos. At the age of just 29, the Brazil international has equalled the record held by Jean-Marc Pilorget by making 435 appearances for PSG.
Marquinhos signed for Les Parisiens for just over €30m back in 2013. It has been a good investment for PSG, who have found an almost displaceable element in their defence. His consistency has now seen him equal the appearance record at PSG after coming off the bench in a 0-0 draw against Clermont Foot on Saturday.
He is now expected to break Pilogret’s record when Les Parisiens face Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League on Wednesday. In a post-match interview with Canal Plus, Marquinhos reflected on the significance of the record, as well as on his future at the Parc des Princes.
“It’s incredible [to break the record]. I arrived here really young and didn’t expect to play so many matches! I want to thank everyone for all of these years, and all of these matches. I’m looking to now beat the appearance record. It is an honour to get to this point. I’m now 29 and I think that my future is still here at PSG. I feel really involved in this club, to give my maximum. That’s the most important,” he began.
Amidst reports that PSG may be open to a departure for Marquinhos, the Brazilian is aware that finishing his career at the Parc des Princes is not a decision that he alone can make, but he nonetheless expressed a desire to remain. “It would [be great] to finish my career here, but I know how quickly football can move. It moves very quickly. I feel involved in the project, in the club and I would be very happy to spend my whole career here,” concluded Marquinhos.
