PSG coach Thomas Tuchel plans to convert defender Marquinhos into a fully-fledged defensive midfielder.
The Brazilian has played as a centre-back his entire career with Corinthians, Roma and PSG but his new German manager believes he has the qualities to star in the middle of the park.
Tuchel, explaining how Marquinhos ‘sacrifices himself voluntarily’ and comparing his role to that of N’Golo Kanté and Sergio Busquets, plans to move the 24-year-old a little further up the pitch on a permanent basis.
“Marquinhos is very different to Giovani Lo Celso, he has a lot of qualities that we are looking for. He is very fast, strong in his head.
“He is a support system on the psychological plan, a player that sacrifices himself voluntarily.
“That is very important, when we see players like Casemiro, Fabinho, N’Golo Kanté at Chelsea or Sergio Busquets at Barcelona. That is what makes a difference in this position.
“I think that Marquinhos has a lot of qualities that destines a player to play as a defensive midfielder.”
