In September, CaughtOffside reported that Chelsea, Tottenham, and Paris Saint-Germain were all interested in Sporting Lisbon’s Viktor Gyökeres. Following his hat-trick performance on Tuesday against Manchester City, one former player explained what makes the striker special.
Tottenham currently lead the race for Gyökeres, while Chelsea view him as more of a backup option, prioritizing a potential move for Victor Osimhen, either in January or next summer. PSG are also monitoring Gyökeres closely, benefiting from strong connections with Sporting.
However, CaughtOffside suggests PSG’s pursuit may depend on whether they decide to sell Gonçalo Ramos or Randal Kolo Muani at the end of the season—a choice that remains undecided.
In addition, A Bola reports that Barcelona’s sporting director, Deco, has begun talks to bring Gyökeres to the Catalan club. The striker reportedly has an agreement with Sporting allowing him to leave for a fee between €60 million and €70 million.

Former Tottenham and Netherlands playmaker Rafael van der Vaart thinks Gyökeres brings “a bit more” to his overall game than Erling Haaland.
“It sounds a bit crazy, but I think he [Gyokeres] is a bit of a better version of Haaland,” van der Vaart said (h/t TEAMTalk). “Haaland is of course incredible, but Gyokeres has a bit more or something.
“He’s a real footballer, I think. A real footballing striker. Strong, scores easily and is calm in front of goal. He is also able to pass the keeper, I think he’s a really good striker. I can enjoy him.”
