Paris Saint-Germain were left feeling angry at Chelsea after they failed to get a deal for Hakim Ziyech over the line on deadline day, according to reports.

The Blues spent over £300m on new arrivals in January with Mykhaylo Mudryk joining from Shakhtar Donetsk for £88.5m and their deal for Enzo Fernandez breaking the British transfer record in a £106.8m transfer from Benfica.

Despite bringing eight players in, Chelsea only sold Jorginho to Arsenal with Graham Potter having Hakim Ziyech to call upon still after his transfer to PSG collapsed.

The Morocco international seemed set to sign for the French giants but The Athletic insist that it ‘collapsed in dramatic circumstances’ with Chelsea failing ‘to file the necessary paperwork ahead of Tuesday’s transfer deadline’.

Ziyech had agreed to join PSG on loan for the remainder of the season with the 29-year-old flying to Paris to complete a move.

The Athletic add:

‘But Chelsea are accused of failing to submit the paperwork in time for the move to be processed, leaving Ziyech in Paris but unable to sign for PSG. ‘A PSG source, who wished not to be named to protect their relationships at the club, described the situation as a “Class A circus”. ‘Chelsea have been contacted for comment. PSG are considering an appeal.’

Another report in the Daily Express claims that Ziyech was ‘left stranded’ in Paris and that PSG are ‘still trying to revive the loan signing’ with the newspaper pointing to ‘a series of paperwork complications’ for the failed move.

It is claimed that Ligue de Football Professionnel’s system ‘crashed’ while there have been claims that Chelsea ‘sent the wrong documents on three occasions’.

The report adds that ‘an appeal process that will be launched on Wednesday’ as PSG continue to try and get the loan over the line.

Ziyech has struggled since moving to Stamford Bridge in 2020 and former Liverpool defender Steve Nicol thinks the Moroccan will only fit into certain systems.

“I would suggest he (Potter) probably knows everything about Ziyech he needs to know,” Nicol told ESPN in January.

“It will be more about how he, in particular, fits into what Potter wants to do at Chelsea, as opposed to what he’s done with Morocco.

“The clubs are not going to change the way they play to suit one person. It’s an individual thing for Ziyech, the World Cup, because it’s not going to change anything at his club.”
