Tonight could see Scotland make history by qualifying for the knock out stage of a major tournament for the first time by getting the desired result against Hungary in Stuttgart.

Even a draw could suffice if other results go our way, but we should be going all out for a victory that will guarantee a place for Scotland in the knock-out rounds for the first time ever.

To get that victory we need to play our best players, especially those who have the experience and more importantly the mentality to win the big games. Guys like Andy Robertson, Callum McGregor and John McGinn will bring us that, but one name that definitely should be in the starting XI is James Forrest.

James has yet to feature in the Euro 2024 thus far, but for me he should be handed a chance this evening. That’s not me showing my bias, it’s just a sensible valid opinion, and with good reason.

Forrest is a big game player, a man for the big occasion. He’s proved it for well over a decade for both club and country. Cup finals, Old Firm and then Glasgow Derby matches, European games, league deciders, he’s been there and done it all.

Even though he’s approaching the end of his career, he proved in the last few months at Celtic that he still has the ability to compete at the top level, make a huge difference and hit the back of the net when a goal is needed most.

Tonight’s game is massive, and who better for the big occasion than the Celtic legend James Forrest?
