Professional Footballers’ Association confirms: Richard Kone named League One Player of the Year
African stars shone brightly on August 19 during the Professional Footballers’ Association Awards ceremony. Following in the footsteps of Mohamed Salah, Ivorian striker Richard Kone was crowned League One Player of the Year (the third tier of English football).
This is truly his year! After being named League One Player of the Season by the EFL, Richard Kone continues to sweep up the awards. On the night of August 19, 2025, the 22-year-old Ivorian forward was awarded the League One Player of the Year trophy by the Professional Footballers’ Association.
A well-deserved honor that crowns his sensational 2024-2025 season and inspiring career path. The former Wycombe Wanderers striker left an indelible mark on League One, netting 18 goals and providing 3 assists. Across all competitions, the Ivorian tallied 21 goals and 5 assists in 52 appearances.
Thanks to his brilliant performances, the ex-Newham Athletic player drove his team to a fourth-place finish in the League One table.Richard Kone’s meteoric rise shows no signs of slowing down, yet he remains determined not to rush his career steps. Following his phenomenal League One campaign, the Ivorian star has made the move to Queens Park Rangers (QPR) in the Championship.
