Preview: Tottenham’s perfect start to be tested against Reading | OneFootball

Reading will be desperate to end Tottenham’s winning streak and find their first points of the season on Sunday.

It would be easy to see Tottenham Hotspur as firm favourites when they host the Royals tomorrow.

After a busy summer of transfers, Rehanne Skinner’s side have enjoyed a perfect start to the season. First beating Birmingham, they then managed to defeat Manchester City away from home – with a little help from Rosella Ayane and the hand of God.

Whilst Spurs have struck lucky with controversial officiating, Reading have suffered the opposite fate. In their opener against Manchester United, Brooke Chaplen’s potential equaliser was not given by the referee. With no goal line technology to prove otherwise, the Royals came away empty-handed.

Reading’s 2021/22 campaign has so far yielded no points and no goals, following a second tough test against high-flying Arsenal.

Meeting of equals

Previously, Tottenham and Reading battled closely in mid-table. Spurs just shaded Reading in their most recent meeting, beating them 2-3 in the FA Cup, and both of their WSL clashes last season ended in a draw.

With this history, both teams will view Sunday’s game as a strong opportunity for three points.

For Spurs, it is a case of keeping the momentum up after their controversial win. It would also be another great step towards their ambition of closing the gap on the ‘Big Four’.

In the Royal’s camp, there will be a greater sense of urgency if they are to maintain their reliable mid-table position.
