Stoke City and Luton Town face each other this Tuesday at the Bet365 Stadium for matchweek 41 of the EFL Championship.
Stoke City have won 43 points to date and are placed in 20th position. In their last fixture, Mark Robins's team shared the spoils 1-1 with Preston North End (EFL Championship 2024/2025).
Luton Town have picked up 39 points and currently lie in 23rd position. In their last game, Matt Bloomfield's team drew 1-1 with Leeds United (EFL Championship 2024/2025).
The last meeting between the two teams ended with Luton Town winning 2-1.
Simon Holden (LutonTownExile): Luton’s weekend 1-1 home draw, against an automatic promotion seeking Leeds United side, consolidated and built on a recent noticeable upturn in performances and points gained.
Despite taking a first half lead when Izzy Jones finished off a fine counter-attack, Town were pegged back by a fine long-range Dan James strike that, perhaps, could have been closed down better. In a game of few clear-cut chances, three or four half chances each, and a few decent keeper stops, Town more than matched a strong Leeds side and on the balance of play more than merited a share of the spoils.
In Carlton Morris’ words, the game had a Premier League energy to it and Town showed that they do have the ability, talent, and application to match the Championship’s top sides within the squad. Unfortunately, showing that hasn’t happened often enough this season & that’s why Town are where they are in the table.
Next up is Stoke City away – a six-pointer if there ever was one. Stoke are a classic Championship side in that they can beat anyone and get beat by anyone in no particular order or pattern. As such, this is a dangerous game for Town. However, buoyed by a renewed confidence, a renewed defensive resilience, and a much-improved togetherness on & off the pitch, this is a game Luton are more than capable of winning.
Unfortunately, it looks increasingly likely that Elijah Adebayo will be missing for this game – and possibly more in the coming weeks. Not ideal but when one door closes another opens for others chomping at the bit to get game time. It won’t be a walk in the park by any means (it seldom is) but I see Town getting the win by a couple of goals.
